Before there was DesRon 36 and Desron 22 New was assigned to DesRon 8 known as the 8 Ball Squadron. These ships were homeported in New Poert Rhode Island. These ships were all new Gearing class destroyers built for WW II but at the time of commissioning the war was ending.
