Below was taken at the enlisted mens club in Guantanimo, Cuba. Better known as Gitmo. It is also known by other names but since this is a family friendly website I won't attempt any of those. Since the takeover of communist in Cuba the only area of the island available to the US is the naval base at Guantanimo which the US had a lease on and wasn't about to let go. Gitmo is used for training and a trip there was never the most pleasant experience for any crew of any ship. Refresher training prepaired the crew for war in case any would break out. For a very tense period in the early sixties there was threat of war and we were on the front lines whenever and wherever we were in that area.
Gitmo is still in use by the navy for that purpose today.
Some of the crew members take a well deserved break from shipboard routine and training and relax in the club with some cold brews. Looks like a cold can of Black Label Beer to me and a few other brands, maybe a Bud or two.
