I've recently been going through a box full of old Navy-days photos, trying to identify and annotate them to put them in some semblance of order in a scrapbook. I'm having a bit of problem with the sequence of events that far back and wonder if anyone can help me out.

I reported aboard New in the Fall of 1957, at the DesSub piers in NORVA. Some of the first pictures I have are related to the Med Cruise in 1958. However, I seem to recall that, before that cruise, New went on a goodwill cruise to Cardiff, Wales and up the river to Bremerhaven, Germany. Returning to CONUS, she subsequently also sailed down to my hometown, Tampa, Florida, to take part in the annual Gasparilla pirate invasion celebration in February of that year. Unfortunately, I missed all that. About the time the ship was making preparations for getting underway for the the UK, I came down with a hellacious flu bug and was transferred next door to sick bay on the destroyer tender Shenandoah (AD-26). Consequently, the only pictoral memories I have of that lost period are of me sitting at a table at the Copa Cabana nightclub in New York when the Shenandoah visited there in December of that year.

The Shenandoah returned to Norfolk and, when New finally got back, I rejoined the crew and served out the rest of my 2-year USNR Active Duty tour.

I was wondering if  anyone can recall the details of the incidents above - or am I just imagining them? It's getting harder to tell these days.
